hot pink in the city

two things on a tuesday

1. pink hair
yeah, I know it's nothing new (actually it's far from new) but I still have an ardor for this look. would I ever dye my own hair pink? probably not. or maybe...depending on what line of business I'll be working in after grad school. but it's fun to still look/admire.

2. san francisco
I guess I do like this city of mine. after spending so much time in the 415 (and not the 650, where my family lives) I've gained a deeper appreciation for SF, seeing things I haven't before, experiencing the city's culture in a new lens (compared from the tainted one I had in high school). yes, it's been a fun summer here. one month to go!

hommes

fashion friday: menswear x asos

so. the other day I went over to bloomingdale's with my cousin (who is a bride to-be) to check out her fiancé trying on his tux for the wedding; it hit me then and there how little I know about mens fashion. there is so much thought & precision that goes into tailoring, that I don't even know where to begin analyzing it. even if menswear is so simple, it really comes down to structure and fit which make each piece look incredible.

coincidentally, I saw the asos autumn 2012 lookbook and I love the way they all the hommes were styled - with a brilliant mix of structured & fitted blazers and trousers, to loud prints that will have you screaming for more...I can't get enough of it.

that 70s girl

OVER THE COURSE OF THAT 70S SHOW, YOU CAN SEE ME GO THROUGH PUBERTY, AND WHO WANTS TO WATCH THAT? NO ONE SHOULD HAVE THAT PART OF THEIR LIFE ON RECORD.
-mila kunis
^^ taken from Kunis' recent Interview Magazine article, in which she appears on the cover for the AUGUST issue, with James Franco reporting.

such a good interview that every aspiring actress should read. and even if you're not pursuing a career in film, her realness and commitment to work is really inspiring.

she's come a long way since jackie burkhardt! (but will still & always be my favorite 70s character)

could she seriously get any cooler?

fantasea

music monday: azealia banks

easily one of my favorite up & coming artists of 2012. azealia is a ƁРʙI h - she spits the most amazing tracks, rocks the flyest fits...and just turned 21.

last week, she released her first mix tape Fantasea and I am obsessed.
here's a statement she released before unleashing the beast:

I originally started this mixtape with the intention of letting go of a ton of old ideas… like songs I started writing but never finished. My ideas and concepts started to develop, so I changed the title and began to try and make the project more cohesive.
Fantasea is almost kind of a first album of sorts….but it happened by mistake…. It’s weird. This is a test run… I tried a lot of cool things… Sounds I thought were progressive, beats made by close friends, different flowsss.
Lololololol I hope you guys like it! I’m nervoussssss.
well lucky for you, azealia, we LOVE it. in particular, "Esta Noche" is the nastiest mashup I've heard in a while.

download Fantasea for $0.00 here - you won't regret it!

a night at the museum

in this day and age, being a nerd isn't the worst thing in the world. it's not like middle school, anymore, where the socially awkward geniuses sitting front row during math and science class were picked on, given wedgies, thrown spit balls at...

those days are over (at least I hope) and the nerds are now having the last laugh, especially when San Francisco's Academy of Sciences began hosting the weekly NightLife party.

being a nerd is finally cool, and what better place to unleash your inner geek, with a cocktail in hand, than at the museum?

from high school field trips to adult shenanigans. partying with the fishies.

I honestly couldn't tell you what half the above images are of, though it's obvious you'll see some urchins, jellyfish, a crazy sea horse, and of course the famous albino alligator

the lights and images flickering off the projector were probably my favorite to look at (I mean, let's be honest) but juxtaposed with the serenity of the aquarium and shrubbery inside the museum, it brought a nice vibe to the place - not to mention some light electronic-meets-reggae type music (if that's even a thing)

NightLife runs from 6-10, so it's not really living up to the standards of "nightlife" we're used to, but nerds need their beauty rest I suppose.

a week in los angeles

I'm way overdue posting this, but better late than never!

beginning july 1, california banned the production of foie gras in restaurants and markets so it was the perfect time to hit up the bazaar at the SLS hotel. the foie gras cotton candy is really my favorite thing on the menu so you can imagine my disappointment. also got to try the foie sliders which were also tasty. RIP foie.
the new sprinkles ice cream shop, another addition taking over this block of santa monica blvd.
finally got to see what all the fuss was about, at the sprinkles cupcakes atm. such a long line but worth the wait if you're craving a chai cupcake (my pick) at midnight.
spent saturday june 30 at the C Magazine & Guess by Marciano fashion show/event at the grove. started off with a fashion show outside accompanied by some complimentary cocktails, then moved over to the store where we reveled in some essential summer shopping.
ok, how could I not come to la without sipping some coffee bean by the pool, or eating a hearty lunch at lemonade? two of my favorite things in the world. plus, an opportune time to finish "the rockstar in seat 3a" by Jill Kargman (fun chick lit & so appropriate for an la ambiance)
an essential rooftop bar in venice is at the Hotel Erwin. awesome music, great seating & views, perfect summertime evening weather.
of course, I love coming to visit my tri delt loves, and what a coincidence that both myself and val were in town from new york?! had dinner at primitivo wine bistro on abbot kinney - really lovely setting but slow service. definitely would come back for the wine.
really, a major reason why I came back to la after being there just 3 weeks prior was to eat kogi tacos at the alibi room. one of my ultimate weaknesses, sadly. seriously the most delicious korean tacos you'll ever eat.
the next day, I wanted to try native foods cafe in culver city since I do love eating vegan. was good but real food daily is still my fave. (btw, are you sick of the food pics yet?)
4th of july! had a relaxing day at dan's pool. some excellent bbq skewers and patriotic pie filled our big, american stomachs.
finally made my way to west hollywood to see my mandeezy & big sis for lunch at urth caffe, another one of my favorites. the energy at this location is quite vibrant and young, you can't help but feel like a hipster or play the role of "struggling actor" when there. also spotted a man with a lizard (in which he sat it on a miniature couch) at a table close by. bizarre is an understatement.
had to spend a night out in hollywood so what better way than with one of my bff's who just recently moved there? chimmy's new cat (who has yet to be named) is my new favorite. loved having a purring animal sleep next to me for the two hours that I did sleep. she's a wild one.
